Our studio is tucked away in the commercial pocket of Hopkins, Minnesota. We bought a scrubby warehouse in 2005 and have been working on it ever since. We may never stop. We have strange geometries and dramatic lighting. There are things carved by lasers, a killer water feature and a meandering mosaic tile wall. Why Studio?
Design is a process of enlightenment. We need a willingness to explore without fear of criticism or thoughts of failure. This is the environment we have created. We use the word studiobecause our space is more dynamic and creative than a lousy showroom. Our space is the heart of our creative process. It’s where things happen. It is always abuzz with activity; from the collaboration of our carpenters, project managers, craftsmen, designers and clients to the constant stream of vendors who visit us from all over the country with the latest, coolest materials and products. This is where we dream, tinker and invent. We all exist under the same roof for one purpose; to participate in the art of making with the laws of form, function and budget guiding every step. Oh, also because it is really fun.
Our Casa Es Tu Casa
In our studio we have many custom cabinet vignettes in various wood species and finishes for you to experience. We also have hundreds of tile, stone, flooring, lighting, plumbing, millwork and countertop samples. The Kuhl Design Library is a collection of thousands of clipped images of quintessential design ideas, organized by topic, next to a comfy chair. It is here to stimulate your brain.
The Power of Context
The only way to insure the best conversation among your interior design elements is to assemble them all in one place for your review. It only stands to reason that you should make all decisions in the context of all your finishes. That’s why we gather all designs, fixtures, finishes, textures and colors for your approval. It’s not your job to run design errands to pick things out or to understand the subtle nuances of interior and structural design. As our client it is your job to have opinions about what you like and what you don’t like about the schemes we assemble. It’s just that simple. Give us some direction about what you like and that is all we need.
We Chase the Geese for You
You may have heard your friends gripe about driving all over town to make selections for their project. Balancing that goose chase with an already busy life can feel pretty overwhelming. We believe the design errands should be our job, not yours. The fun part is the looking, not the driving.
